Nadal reaches 14th Roland-Garros final as Zverev retires injured

Rafael Nadal is through to his 14th Roland-Garros final after Alexander Zverev was forced to retire with an ankle injury during their semi-final clash on Friday.

Nadal was leading 7-6 (10), 6-6 when Zverev twisted his ankle awkwardly and was unable to continue. The Spaniard will now face either Casper Ruud or Marin Cilic in Sunday's final.

Zverev had been bidding to win his first Grand Slam title and reach his second major final, but his hopes were dashed by the unfortunate injury.

Nadal, meanwhile, is now just one win away from a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title. He will be the heavy favorite against either Ruud or Cilic, who are both yet to reach a Grand Slam final.

The Spaniard has been in imperious form throughout the tournament, dropping just one set en route to the final. He will be confident of adding to his already impressive tally of Roland-Garros titles on Sunday.
