Classicism in the Arts: A Journey Through History

Early Classical Period (500-450 BC)

The Early Classical period in Western art is considered a pivotal era marked by the emergence of classicism, a concept characterized by an emphasis on harmony, balance, and rationality. During this time, both Greece and Rome began to develop their own unique artistic styles that would later heavily influence Western art.

Characteristics of Early Classical Art

Early Classical art is renowned for its serene and idealized forms. Sculptures from this era, such as the famous Doryphoros (Spear-Bearer) by Polykleitos, demonstrate a keen attention to human anatomy and proportions. Architecture also reflected this стремление to harmony and precision, with the Doric and Ionic orders becoming the foundations of classical architecture.
