Cleveland Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson to Miss Remainder of Season Due to Injury
NFL Star Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery
Browns Announce Loss of Starting Signal Caller
The Cleveland Browns have announced that starting quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season due to a season-ending injury. The news comes as a significant blow to the Browns, who had been expected to contend for a playoff berth behind Watson's leadership.
According to reports, Watson underwent successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The injury occurred during the Browns' 24-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 of the season. Watson was attempting to scramble out of the pocket when he was tackled awkwardly by Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau.
The Browns initially hoped that Watson would only miss a few games with the injury. However, further evaluation revealed the severity of the tear, necessitating season-ending surgery. The team's head coach, Kevin Stefanski, expressed his disappointment but vowed to support his star quarterback during his recovery.
Watson is now expected to begin an extensive rehabilitation process that is likely to take several months. The Browns are hopeful that he will be ready to return to action for the start of the 2024 season. In the meantime, backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will take over as the team's starter.
